If you or your child has recently tested positive for COVID-19, you might be wondering about what steps you should take next. For information, read the VT Department of Health's article on what to do if you test positive for COVID-19 as well as the COVID-19 Follow-up Testing Guide.
The COVID vaccine has been approved for children 6 months and older. In our office we are administering both Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.
Vaccinations are now available for all adults and children over the age of 6 months. The studies on these vaccination in children have shown that it is both effective and well-tolerated in the short run. Although long-term studies are not available, given the sophistication and track record of vaccine science, it is very unlikely that any significant late side-effects will result. Receiving the vaccine is safer than getting COVID infection (though as the years go by, infections seem to be less and less severe). The long-term ramifications of the COVID infection remain to be fully understood but we do know that a very small percentage of children suffer significant health effects.
COVID19 vaccination is approved and safe for mothers who are breastfeeding and for pregnant women.
